Local dancers to represent Canada at World Championships in Poland

Several local dancers auditioned and have made it to the largest and most prestigious of all dance competitions — The World Dance Championships, this year will be held in Mazowiecka, Poland in December.
Selected to represent Canada are Bolton residents Bethney Namugera, Liliana Scatozza and Isabel Wojewoda, all who currently train on the competitive team at Sondra's Tri-Dance Company. All three young ladies currently attend St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in Bolton.
While most teens are doing other activities during the summer, this very talented youth group gladly give up their summer holidays as well as their weekends to train for this exciting experience and a chance to represent Canada on the World Stage.
Since there is no government support for Team Canada Dance, each member must raise their own funds to attend the World Championships. The young dancers are seeking the community support. Those who are able to help sponsor their experience are asked to contact Sondra's Tri-Dance at 905 857-9980 or visit www.tridance.com to send a direct message. All proceeds will go directly to their travel and registration expenses.
International Dance Organization Vice-President and Sports Director Fiona Johnson Kocjancic stated that the International Dance Organization promotes dancers as the true athletes that they are. In many European countries, dance is considered a sport.
The International Dance Organization has more than 250 thousand member dancers from six continents. This exciting World Championship format is Olympic Style, with only one Gold, Silver and Bronze being presented on the Podium with the World Champions National Anthem being played as the top three medalist flags are raised.
Team Canada Dance National Director Bonnie Dyer stated that Canada has been quite successful in all dance disciplines at the World Championships and this is mainly due to the high standard of training that local studios offer.
“It is also great to see the best of the best in Canada that come from various studios all working together as one team with one goal,” she added, “and that is to represent Canada.”
