Local child participates in Toronto Kids Fashion Week

11-year-old Madison Mogent from Caledon got the opportunity to work the runway at Toronto Kids Fashion Week (TKFW) on Nov 30.

This year marks the third year of TKFW to showcase the newest designs and trends in children's fashion for Spring and Summer 2020.

This event gives children all over the world the opportunity to represent themselves for the first time in the modelling industry. The TKFW is Canada's third kids fashion week alongside Montreal and Vancouver's shows.

“Toronto Kids Fashion Week intends to shine a spotlight on fashion, art, and culture to create a meaningful and memorable impact for brands, industry insiders, buyers, retailers, influencer and the media through runway shows and special presentations, on a much great scale,” explains Abby Yu, Founder of Toronto Kids Fashion Week.

The show included a dance performance from the Anna Marie Dance Academy, an anti-bullying statement video, and a performance by GForce who were the quarter finalists on Americas Got Talent.

Madison's little sister was originally supposed to model at TKFW but was unable to attend because she had to be in Montreal at the same time TKFW's rehearsals was going on. Madison stepped in to fill in for her sister, only to fall in love with being on the runway.

“My younger daughter, is in the acting industry, so at one of the auditions another parent asked me if she was going to be at Toronto Kids Fashion Week. I was familiar with it, but I didn't know all the details, and she told me to register her. I went online and I registered her. So, originally it wasn't Madison I was registering it was my younger daughter,” explains Stacey, Madison's mom. “But, then she got a movie role in Montreal, so that first weekend for the fashion rehearsal, we had to be in Montreal! So, I told them that I had another daughter who could participate. She auditioned, and got selected and began rehearsals.”

She added, “It was different. I didn't know what to expect because I've never been before, it was my first time. It was nice, the lighting was beautiful, the whole ambiance; it was really nice.  The clothing was nice, the kids looked beautiful. Some were really young and so cute. The stylists were awesome, they did a top-notch job.”

Madison's favourite part of the show, was getting her hair and makeup done.

“It was awesome when they did my hair, and I loved my make up,” explained Madison. “She put a clip that said ‘love' on it in my hair, and she took out my hair and I didn't know that it was that long. It was a different hair style. It was beautiful.”

After her experience at the Toronto Kids Fashion Week, Madison wants to continue modelling and to pursue it in the future.

Toronto Kids Fashion Week was founded in 2018 to create a platform for children's fashions and trends. They allow designers from all over display their newest designs, as well as give children, like Madison, an opportunity to experience the industry and to shine in the spotlight.
