Large crowd gathers at Caledon’s Town Hall for Remembrance Day ceremonyBy Zachary Roman On November 11 at 11 a.m. Caledon residents paused for a moment of silence to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. A Remembrance Day ceremony held then at Caledon's Town Hall was the final event in a series of ceremonies that had been happening throughout the area. In the communities of Mono Mills, Alton, and Bolton, ceremonies were held in the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day. Students from Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School attended the ceremony, with members of the school's football team holding a banner that said “Robert F. Hall Remembers.” Music students played the Last Post and Reveille, and a bagpiper also played at the ceremony. Many wreaths were laid at the foot of the Town Hall cenotaph, including by Caledon's fire chief Dave Forfar; the Caledon O.P.P.; and Caledon Mayor Annette Groves (who was Mayor-Elect at the time of the ceremony). Former Caledon Mayor Allan Thompson (who was Mayor at the time of the ceremony) thanked everyone who attended, and said Remembrance Day is a time to show thanks and gratitude for our freedom. |
