Jr. C Bandits tagged with two more lacrosse losses

By Jake Courtepatte
With just over two weeks to go in the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League season, it is becoming more and more apparent the Caledon Bandits will get a very tough draw in the first playoff round.
The Bandits lost their fourth and fifth games in a row last week, spreading the gap between the West's bottom three teams and the rest of the division even further.
Hosting the winless Mimico Mountaineers at Mayfield Rec Complex last Tuesday, the Bandits took a quick 3-0 lead in the first period on goals from Josh MacIsaac, Jordan Oshowy and Colin Sinclair. Mimico broke the shutout of Jordan Roswell in the final two minutes of the frame, and took control of the game in the second.
Three consecutive breakaway goals on fast break plays quickly had the Bandits down 4-3, with coaches calling a timeout to try to regroup the squad. Forward Sam McCanna, who has scored 20 points for the Bandits this year, was kicked from the game shortly after for having words with the referee.
The timeout seemed to work, as Caledon tied the game back up at four minutes later on a nifty pass out front from Josh Thompson to set up Sinclair alone in front. Caledon retook the lead midway through the third period off the stick of Chris Dimartino.
However, it was Mimico that took over from there, notching four goals in the final five minutes of play to secure an 8-5 win.
Switching venues to the Caledon Community Complex for Friday night's match with the Oakville Buzz, around 70 fans were on hand to witness the action. Unfortunately, the Buzz controlled the game from start to finish, notching seven goals in the first period of an eventual 12-5 game.
Scoring for the Bandits was McCanna, Thompson, McIsaac, Jordan McArthur and Jarrett Petrie.
With a record of 2-8-0, the Bandits remain in a not-so-elite grouping with the Mountaineers and Shelburne Vets, who both only have one win to their credit on the season. Caledon sits four points back of the sixth-place Halton Hills Bulldogs.
The team will have a chance to regroup with a sparse schedule coming up, hosting the Fergus Thistles Tuesday evening after press time followed by a 10-day break.
They return to action June 17 against the Vets at Centre Dufferin in Shelburne.
