Jones looking forward to working with new MMP Martow after recent byelectionsBy Bill Rea There was some good news from the recent provincial byelections, as far as Sylvia Jones was concerned. “I think it's great that Gila Martow is going to join us,” Dufferin-Peel's MPP remarked. Martow won the byelection in Thornhill, replacing fellow Progressive Conservative Peter Shurman who resigned in December. In the other contest in Niagara Falls, New Democrat Wayne Gates took the seat that had previously been held by the governing Liberals. Jones observed the Niagara Falls contest was a lot closer than many people had been expecting. She said there were a number of people who don't live in the riding who were there to help campaign. “That was definitely in play in Niagara Falls,” she said. Jones also thought there was some significance ot the fact the Grits were shut out election night. “I think it says that people are looking for an alternative,” she said. “The opposition parties have an opportunity to show what that difference is.” |
