Johanna Downey wants council seatBy Bill Rea Lifelong Caledon resident Johanna Downey is getting ready to experience the political arena. She has registered to seek the Regional council seat for Ward 2. This will be her first time seeking elected office. Her trade is design architecture, but she said she's been doing a refocus in her life, and friends suggested she seek the council seat. “Why not put my focus in my own community,” she said. “It seems like a good challenge; an exciting challenge.” Downey said she grew up in Caledon and has seen the changes and developments that have taken place in Ward 2. “I have gained insightful knowledge from those who have spent generations in Caledon, as well as the growing number of those who have just settled in,” she commented. “My drive stems from a combination of rural roots and an urban perspective.” “I see the upcoming election as an opportunity to contribute to positive change, yet maintain balance within Caledon,” she added. “I believe that this is the key to strengthening and building the community.” Downey said she has been involved in a number of activities in the community, including Caledon Parent-Child Centre and the Caledon East Revitalization Committee. “I enjoy being local,” she said. “I enjoy taking part in the events that are happening in the community.” Downey was talking confidently about her chances in the coming campaign. “I think I've got a lot to offer,” she said. |
