Husky remembers former employeeFamily, friends and community members from all across Ontario came together to celebrate the Don Olson Classic Oct. 3. The event is organized by 310 Running, a local not-for-profit athletics club. In honor of Mr. Olson, a long-time Husky employee, Husky Injection Molding Systems became the title sponsor of the event in 2013. All proceeds from the race are donated to Bethell Hospice Foundation, which is a not-for-profit organization that provides compassionate care and support to people diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. Mr. Olson's wife Linda, 310 Running's Head Coach Scott Skimming and Husky's VP Corporate Services and General Counsel Michael McKendry, presented a cheque for $8,000 to Julie Hymers, fundraising manager for Bethell Hospice, Oct. 22. “We are so grateful to 310 Running for supporting Bethell Hospice Foundation each year through the Don Olson Classic, and to Husky Injection Molding Systems for their leadership as the principal event sponsor,” Hymers said. “This type of ongoing community support ensures that Bethell Hospice can continue to provide end-of-life care to anyone in need, regardless of their financial situation.” The annual race, held by 310 Running at Albion Hills Conservation Area near Palgrave, was renamed the Don Olson Classic in memory of Mr. Olson, who had been a long-time coach with the organization. One of the unique features of the Don Olson Classic is that the charity that benefits from it, Bethell Hospice, was selected by Mr. Olson himself. |
