Humberview Secondary’s track and field receives money from town and regionWritten By JASEN OBERMEYER The Peel District School Board (PDSB) and the Town of Caledon have agreed to enter into a partnership for the construction and operation of a revitalized track and field at Humberview Secondary School. The project will include the installation of an artificial turf field, a new walking and running track with a synthetic surface, LED lighting, and fencing on the sports field. PDSB and the town are both contributing $900,000 to this $1.8 million project investment. “This is an incredible opportunity for the Town to work in partnership with the Peel District School Board to support the new track and field,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “Its exciting projects like this that make a big impact on the community.” The town and the Peel board expect renovations to the artificial track and field to begin in June 2018, with an estimated completion date of September 2018. “We're pleased to partner with our municipal counterparts in Caledon to deliver top-notch sports facilities and programming to Peel students and the community,” said Jaspal Gill, associate director of operational support services for the Peel board. “When opportunities like these present themselves, it's clear that they are a win-win for everyone involved.” “Students at Humberview Secondary School and the surrounding area will now have access to a great facility that will encourage health and wellness,” added Mayor Thompson. The school will have priority access to the artificial track and field during the school days for curricular and extra-curricular activities. The town will have the opportunity to rent the facility out to community groups outside of regular school hours. The town will also be responsible for setting fees and facility bookings outside of school use. |
