It will feature a synthetic surface, LED lighting and fencing on the sports field. “Overhead lighting is complete and the score board is installed,” said Carla Pereira, director of communications and community services for Peel District School Board. “The granular base material for the running track is complete, inclusive of curbs.  The running track's asphalt base, all-weather, synthetic surface and landscaping will be completed in Spring 2019.” The program is a joint venture between Peel District School Board and the Town of Caledon. It represents a total investment of $1.8 million for which the school board and the Town are both contributing $900,000.  The Board is utilizing school condition improvement funds for the Humberview track & field project,” said Pereira. “A capital request of $900,000 was made for the artificial turf and track in the Town of Caledon's 2018 budget submission. Council approved that request and partnership with the Peel District School Board.  The new track will have eight lanes and will be slightly larger than the current six lane track. The town and school board previously collaborated on a joint-use branch library at Belfountain Public School. Work on Humberview's track began in June 2018 and was initially scheduled to be complete in October 2018. “Inclement weather delayed completion of the asphalt base for the running track,” said Pereira. The peel board coordinated the construction of the project. The board and the Town will share maintenance, repair and replacement costs. “The board will have exclusive use of the track & field during the school day and the Town of Caledon will administer public use of the track & field after school hours and on weekends,” said Pereira.  The Town will be responsible for fee-setting and facility bookings outside of school use, according to a news release. Permits will not be booked past 11 p.m. The track will be closed between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. The project came about after town and school board staff discussed the development and operation of a joint-use artificial surface playing field and running track at Humberview. “After confirming a mutual interest in improving the sports field, the Peel board and Town of Caledon agreed to proceed with a proposal to improve the field for both student and public use,” said Pereira. The LED lights will be directed towards the field to minimize overflow lighting beyond the field. The LED lights will help better direct the light onto the field – compared to conventional lighting systems, according to a Town and School Board news release. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2019-03-14 11:41:15 Post date GMT: 2019-03-14 15:41:15 Post modified date: 2019-03-14 11:41:24 Post modified date GMT: 2019-03-14 15:41:24 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
