Humberview grad and her husband open WingsUp! franchise in BoltonAnu Joshi-Mehendale and Tejas Mehendale proud to open new restaurant By ZACHARY ROMAN Local Journalism Initiative Reporter A new restaurant opened in Bolton on Monday. On January 8, Caledon Council members and representatives from the Caledon Chamber of Commerce attended the grand opening of Anu Joshi-Mehendale and TJ Mehendale's new WingsUp! franchise. The restaurant is known for its 100 per cent Canadian, fresh and never frozen chicken. Joshi-Mehendale, 29, and husband Mehendale, 31, are graduates of Humberview Secondary School in Bolton. Mehendale has a background in sales, working in the financial and automotive sectors. Joshi-Mehendale said he's a people person and is amazing with customers. Joshi-Mehendale grew up in Caledon and studied political science at York University. At the same time, she also got her real estate license. For the last ten years, she's run her own real estate business. “I've always wanted to own a restaurant — I didn't know how it would materialize or in what form… but then an opportunity arose and we started looking into it,” said Joshi-Mehendale. “We thought now would be a great time to do this… Bolton would be an amazing place to do this.” Joshi-Mehendale said it's been a learning curve adapting to her and her husband's new business, but it's been exciting, too. She said she felt very supported by the Town of Caledon on the day their business opened. “It was a really good feeling to be supported… we really felt that sense of community (at the grand opening) which is one of the main reasons we chose Bolton,” said Joshi-Mehendale. “It's a family-oriented, support-oriented community, very close-knit.” Joshi-Mehendale said the grand opening day of the business felt like the perfect first step into a new stage of life. |
