Held each spring during National Hospice and Palliative Care Week, the hike is an important fundraising event for the Bethell Hospice Foundation, raising awareness and funds for hospice palliative care in the community. At the end of life, Bethell Hospice Residence is a warm and caring alternative to both hospital and home, when care at home is no longer practical. There are no fees to stay at Bethell Hospice or to participate in any of the Community Care Programs, and no one is ever denied care due to financial situation. In addition to government funding, Bethell Hospice Foundation must raise $1,000,000 each year to keep the doors open. “People like you ensure that Bethell Hospice continues to be a presence in our community, and for that, we thank you so very much,” Foundation Co-chair Tim Powell told the walkers before the event. The hike featured a balloon release memorial tribute, and participants enjoyed a barbecue provided by the Caledon Lions Club after their walk along the Caledon Trailway. Hike for Bethell Hospice is presented by Meadowvale Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centres and The Simple Alternative Funeral Centres in Mississauga. The hike is also supported by Platinum Level Community Partners Brampton Brick, Cavalier Transportation Services and Scotiabank, as well as a host of Gold, Silver, Bronze and Route Sponsors. All proceeds from the hike benefit Bethell Hospice Foundation. Bethell Hospice is the only residential hospice serving Caledon, Brampton, Dufferin County and west Woodbridge. The facility also provides Community Programs throughout Caledon and Brampton. A similar hike will take place this Saturday at Dick's Dam Park in Bolton, with proceeds adding to the more than $100,000 already raised. Registration for the Bolton hike can be done on-site at Dick's Dam Park at 9 a.m. Saturday. The hike gets underway at 10 a.m. For more information, visit the Bethell Hospice website at www.bethellhospice.org The streets of Inglewood were filled with people taking part in the annual Hike for Bethell Hospice Sunday.
