A local arts non-profit will soon host its flagship fundraising event.

From 6 to 9 p.m. on September 19, Headwaters Arts will host an opening night soiree for its 28th-Annual Fall Festival, Juried Art Show & Sale.

The event will take place in the Headwaters Arts Gallery at the Alton Mill Arts Centre (1402 Queen St. West).

On opening night, over 70 pieces of art from local artists, selected by jurors Dr. Shauna McCabe and Mark Fletcher, will be unveiled.

Live music from jazz group The Sidemen will provide a backdrop for the evening, and guests can enjoy drinks from the bar and catering by Gregory's.

McCabe and Fletcher will hand out juror's awards on opening night, and there will also be scholarship presentations.

Tickets for the opening night soiree are $40 plus tax and include food and one free bar ticket. Tickets can be purchased online at headwatersarts.org.

The art that is part of this year's juried show will be on display until October 6, and a number of events are planned throughout the show's duration.

On September 22, jurors McCabe and Fletcher will host a walk around the Headwaters Arts Gallery to share what impressed them when selecting works to be shown at this year's show and sale.

The walk will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and guests will have a chance to ask questions of the jurors and learn more about the art world.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 29, there will be an “Arts in the Annex” artist and artisan market in the tented space outside the Alton Mill Arts Centre.

The final event of Headwaters Arts' 28th-Annual Fall Festival, Juried Art Show & Sale is an author's afternoon being held from 2 to 5 p.m. on October 6.

There will be a panel discussion with three fiction authors: Kathy Friedman, Greg Rhyno, and Deepa Rajagopalan.

The panel will be moderated by media personality Mairlyn Smith.
