Great turnout for opening reception of Artful Giving show and saleShow runs until January 5 By ZACHARY ROMAN Local Journalism Initiative Reporter The Headwaters Arts Gallery was full last weekend for the opening reception of this year's Artful Giving show and sale. On November 23 at the Alton Mill Arts Centre, artists and art enthusiasts gathered to enjoy Headwaters Arts' latest show, meet the artists participating in it, and purchase art. Hildegarde Sausik was one of the artists exhibiting her work at Artful Giving. She's a fashion designer, painter, and mixed media artist. She created a variety of silk-screened velvet shawls for the show, created in a unique way that allows them to comfortably stay in place on the wearer. Sausik loves being involved with Headwaters Arts, and also created a number of mixed-media paintings for Artful Giving. Gilbert Sipkema was another artist featured at the show. He created a variety of handcrafted jewelry, and decorative masks, using natural and recycled materials. He's been an artist as long as he can remember, and creates beautifully-intricate pieces. The masks he created for the Artful Giving show have a deep meaning: they serve as a reminder of missing persons. Artful Giving will be showing at the Alton Mill Arts Centre until January 5, and features all kinds of handcrafted art like Christmas ornaments, jewelry, clay and ceramics, wood-turned items, glass, textiles, paintings, and cards. |
