This was an initiative to replenish the Town's tree canopy by reaching out to area students to plant trees in Town-owned parks during the week leading up to Earth Day 2016 (April 22). “Our community, Bolton in particular, was hit hard by the ice storm of 2013, which devastated the tree canopies,” Mayor Allan Thompson observed. “By using this funding, the Town of Caledon hopes to educate youth in our community by involving them in the planting and maintenance of our native tree species.” The Parks and Recreation team partnered with Ontario Streams and Glen Echo Nurseries, as well as Southfields Village Public School, Palgrave Public School, St. John the Baptist Elementary School, Ellwood Memorial Public School and Allan Drive Middle School. In total, approximately 400 students planted more than 40 trees of various sizes, and included maple, autumn blaze, trembling aspen, sugar maple and alternate leaved dogwood in Caledon parks. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2016-05-04 15:47:07 Post date GMT: 2016-05-04 19:47:07 Post modified date: 2016-05-05 11:43:24 Post modified date GMT: 2016-05-05 15:43:24 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
