Government announces commitment to fund Phase II of Peel MemorialHealth and Long-Term Care Minister Dr. Eric Hoskins joined dignitaries, hospital and community leaders at William Osler Health System's Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness recently to announce the government's commitment to fund Phase II of the new outpatient facility. Hoskins also announced funding for an additional 31 temporary beds for Osler's Brampton Civic Hospital. These beds are in addition to the six beds at Brampton Civic and 22 beds at Osler's Etobicoke General Hospital, which were announced earlier in November to help further support the hospital in the lead-up to flu season. “We greatly appreciate the government's investment in our hospitals and its commitment to ensuring this community has even greater access to the health care services it needs most,” Osler Board Chair Vanita Varma said. “The funding announced today will allow us to address the growth in patient volumes at Brampton Civic Hospital and is an investment in the future of health care in this community — through the innovation of Osler's new Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness.” Phase II of Peel Memorial will consist of more than 100 new rehabilitation and complex continuing care beds. Phase II is an integral part of the long-term planning process to increase inpatient capacity across Osler's health system. “This is an exciting time for health care in Brampton,” Osler President and CEO Dr. Brendan Carr commented. “Today's announcement is an investment in the future of health care in this community, and is wonderful news for people across this region — as well as Osler's dedicated staff and physicians. We look forward to continuing to work with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Central West LHIN, and Infrastructure Ontario to advance the planning of Phase II of Peel Memorial so that we can meet the increasing health care needs of the community — now and into the future.” |
