Golden Hawks go without a point in crucial two games

By Jake Courtepatte
Looking to make a push for the top heading into the final week of the GMOHL season, it seems the Caledon Golden Hawks are trapped in mediocrity limbo.
After going 3-0-1 through mid-January, regulation losses came back-to-back over the weekend at the hands of opponents too close for comfort in the standings.
Also looking to improve their stock for the playoffs are the Penetang Kings, whose come-from-behind victory over Caledon Friday spoiled the Hawks' streak.
As is often the case, the high-scoring trio of Daniel Cafagna, Nicholas McNutt and Christian Mariconda combined to open the scoring, with Cafagna getting the marker late in the first. Matt Magliozzi scored a few minutes later to give Caledon a 2-0 lead after one.
Penetang beat goaltender Brendan Macham once in the second and twice in the third, throwing 41 shots at the Caledon net and holding onto a 3-2 victory.
Sunday's match up in Caledon against the red-hot Huntsville Otters was over from the start. Both Macham and Sam Procopio saw action in the net for the Golden Hawks, with Procopio coming out after the second goal in a lopsided 7-0 loss.
Macham was marked with five goals against through 36 shots.
Never able to fully recover from an 0-7 start to the season in late September and early October, the Hawks seem to at least have moved themselves into a comfortable playoff position. Two games remain on the regular season schedule, leaving the Hawks able to move up to as high as third place in the nine-team league, and as low as sixth.
Currently they sit in fifth with a 17-19-2 record, three points behind the Stayner Siskins, who as of now would be Caledon's first round match up. The season series between the two teams went 3-1-1 in Caledon's favour.
They will have their work cut out for them in Friday's final away game of the season, visiting the Alliston Hornets. Alliston has run away with the league this year, an amazing 25 points up on the second place Otters.
Fans can catch the final home game of the regular season Sunday, with a 7 p.m. puck drop against the Kings.
