Facing the top two teams in the Provincial Junior Hockey League Carruthers division, as well as the only two teams to hold a record better than .500, the Hawks gave up four points to the Stayner Siskins in a home-and-home series as well as two to the Alliston Hornets. The Hawks brought their best to face the 18-3-0 Siskins on the road last Thursday night, holding the home team to just one power-play goal in the first period. Sean Nottle tied the game on a Hawks' power play early in the second, which would be the only attempt in 18 shots in the period that would beat the Siskins' Hayden Ford. Meanwhile, Stayner added two more in the frame to take a 3-1 lead, adding an empty netter late in the third for a 4-1 win. Caledon's Andrew Ireland stopped 33 of the 36 shots he faced. Hosting the Siskins at Caledon East the following night was more of the same, with the Hawks holding the Siskins to two goals in the opening period. Already with a short bench of only 13 skaters in the game, Head Coach Stan Kondrotas' options were even more limited when staple blueliner Mitchell Devins-Cann was sent to the showers for a hit from behind just past the midway point of the second period. That led to four straight goals from the Siskins, including two shorthanded markers on the same penalty kill. The second of the two, scored on a fast break up the middle on a five-on-three that surprised the Caledon defenders, was followed just seconds later by Kevin Pleasance off the draw to break the shutout. Lucas Jeffrey added one more Stayner goal in the third period for a final score of 7-1. In another serious blow to the Hawks' lineup, team leading scorer Matt Magliozzi was handed a four-game suspension following the game for an attempt to injure late in the third. Rounding out the week with a visit to the 20-1-1 Alliston Hornets, Ireland was forced to contend with a barrage of shots, three of which beat him in the first period. Though Devins-Cann scored on the penalty kill early in the second, it was all the offence they could provide, as Alliston top scorers Drake Board and Stephen Nosad both connected before the second intermission on the power play. Final score was 5-1. Picking up zero of a possible six points over the weekend was a major blow to a club that was experiencing its first successful run of the season. Going 3-1-1 in the five games prior to last week, three straight losses and a win by the rival Penetang Kings have once again solidified Caledon's position at the bottom of the Carruther's division. They bring their record of 4-19-2 into Orillia Saturday night to take on the Terriers (9-16-0) before hosting the Schomberg Cougars (9-14-1) Sunday. Puck drop is set for 6:30 p.m. at Caledon East.
