George’s cruises through playoffs to take men’s hockey league title


George's Arena Sports cruised to the Caledon Senior Hockey League title Monday night with a 7-4 win over Fines Ford Lincoln.
The win at Don Sheardown Memorial Arena left George's with an undefeated record of 4-0-1 in the playoff round-robin. They finished one point ahead of Yale Industrial Trucks (3-0-2), who downed Jiffy Lube Oilers 8-2. In the other game on the final night of the CSHL season, Rutherford Global Logistics beat Bolton Chiropractic Centre 8-5.
George's 7, Fines Ford 4
Joe Lampkin was the top point-getter for George's with five assists.
Bret Smith led the scoring parade with three goals while Ron Sampson was right behind him with two. Bill Moyer had a goal and two assists while Jim Rogers chipped in one of each. Dave Smith had two assists while Stephan Paccula and Gary Faultless had singles.
Mike Gasparini and Ian Kerr led Fines with a goal and an assist each. Danny Avram and John Pallotta had the other goals. Dominic Ierullo bagged two assists with singles going to John Pitsadiotis, Jack Gibson, Bill Davis and Frank McKay.
Yale 8, Jiffy Lube 2
The Cinderella run through the playoffs by the Yalies, who finished last in the regular season, ended with a win but just short of the playoff title.
Steve Tarasco led them over Fines with three goals while team sponsor Al McFadyen had a goal and three assists. Garth Young followed with a goal and two assists while Nick Taccogna had one of each. Randy Freitag and Tony Calabro had the other goals. Frank Cirone had two assists with one each going to Joe Guaragna, Dan Tasson and Brian Samuel.
Mike McNamara had a goal and an assist for Jiffy Lube. Steve Sanderson had the other goal while single assists went to Bill Jenner, Rich Petrie and team sponsor Brian Fetterly.
Rutherford 8, Bolton Chiropractic 5
Jim Horan earned a goal and two assists for Rutherford while Peter Coghill scored twice.
Bob Smith and James Heenan both had a goal and an assist. Murray Hurst and Bernie Tisdale scored the other goals. Dave Boyd, Ted Callighen and Garry Hoxey had two assists each. Single assists came from Bob McHardy and Dominic Spignasi.
Bruno Fracassi led Bolton Chiropractic with a goal and two assists while Paul Speck had a goal and an assist. Larry Pevato, David Shoalts and Rick Agar scored the other goals. Mark Perrin and Dave Armstrong had single assists.
