George’s Arena Sports crowned champions — Two nights of hot action to wrap up IBHL seasonGeorge's Arena Sports are the champions in the Inglewood Ball Hockey League for 2014. The champs went the entire season posting nothing but wins, and wrapped it all up with a 5-1 victory over Carney Plumbing. George's took the lead in the first and never looked back. Adam Biastrocci from Joey Lemos, Shawn Alonto from Andy Sant and Travis Watts, Jake Lake from Jon Desmarais, Lake from Desmarais and Adam Victoria, and Watts from Alonto and Sant wrapped up the scoring for the George's guys. Carney's lone marksman was David Rothfuchs from Mark Olesen-Varnell and Brian Dunn. Semifinals Carney Plumbing 4 We Are Creative 3 In a real nail biter both teams played hard and Carney was able to keep the edge and move onto the finals. After a scoreless first period Carney jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Jordan Rothfuchs bagged a brace with help from the sticks of Shawn Lane and Chris Chidwick. We Are answered back with a single by Cody Doiron (unassisted). The third frame saw We Are net a pair to gain the lead with John West-Carvalho from Matt Geiser and Steven DeFrancesco and Nicholas Figliomeni from Doiron and John Monti getting the points. Carney tied it up with just two minutes left when Will Crowe found the back of the net from Todd Elson and Rothfuchs. Less than 30 seconds later, Lane got the winner for Carney from Kelly Regan. George's Arena Sports 4 Ron's Tire Discounter 3 In another close battle, George's were able to hold on and go to the show. George's took a two-goal lead into the second period, with Joey Lemos from Biastrocci and Matt McNally and Alonto from Sant and Jason Duncan getting the markers. Ron's took charge in the second with a short-handed goal by Taylor Elkins from Cory Atwater, and a pair of powerplay goals from Atwater and Noel Fortner with Fortner getting a helper as well. George's drew back to a tie with a little more than a minute left in the frame when Biastrocci from Jozef Neu found the back of the cage. George's were able to hold off the Tire guys and Biastrocci was able to put it away with less than two minutes to play from McNally. The last games in the round-robins to settle the semifinalists took place July 29. Carney Plumbing 11 Caledon Hills Cycling 3 Carney point getters were Ryan Zimmerman, Olesen-Varnell, Will Crowe, Matt Henderson, Jordan Rothfuchs, Chidwick, Don Crowe, Dunn, Pete Davis, Ricki Minhas, David Rothfuchs and Lane. Caledon Hills Cycling pedal pushers were Travis Cassar (unassisted), Dave Philips from Dan Mulhern, and Cassar from Philips and Brandon Sinclair. We Are Creative 5 Ron's Tire Discounters 4 In a tight match that saw both teams fighting for a semifinal berth, We Are came out on top and got the second spot. Even with the loss, Ron's Tire took the last spot for the semis and will face George's. Net nabbing for We Are were Mike Spagnuolo (two goals), Doiron (three goals), with Alex Schittenhelm, Geiser, West-Carvalho, Luca Raga and Mike Tarasco all getting helpers. Ron's go-to guys were Chris Gikov from Kyle Miledi, Nick Brouillette (unassisted), Ryan Frangakis from Alex Boughan and Fortner, and Atwater from Miledi. George's Arena Sports 7 Mr. Handyman 2 Handyman threw it all at George's in the first and were able to take the lead into the second. But George's came alive and stormed through the rest of the match. Handyman heroes were Nick Franseze from Chris Della Morra, and Mike Chiarantano from Mike Volpe. George's go-to guys were Joey Lemos (a goal and an assist), Lake (fur goals), Neu (two assists), Desmarais (one assist), Mike Desmarais (two assists), Alonto (one goal), Jessie Lemos (one goal) and Biastrocci (two assists). The league extends thanks to all the players, referees, arena staff and newspapers for making this another great season. |
