George Niras registers to run for mayorGeorge Niras waited until the last day to register his candidacy, but he was in time to run for mayor of Caledon in next month's municipal elections. In a statement he issued, Niras said he wants to keep Caledon on the right path for residents and their families. He also commented on the need to save green space, by increasing the tree cover every year with planting and state-of-the-art protection measures. “I will ensure we are keeping the Town mowed, planted and plowed better than it has ever been in its history,” he promised Niras also said he will make development charges capture all the costs of growth that the law allows. “I will ensure Caledon will lead in making growth pay its way,” he stated. “This keeps tax increases down.” He also stated his vision is to make Caledon the most livable town in Canada, and his mission is to create and preserve Canada's most livable community that enhances the natural, cultural, social and economic environments. He added that will be achieved by continuously improving programs and services that are both accessible and environmentally and fiscally sustainable. Niras said his values include accountability, with a pledge to deliver what he's promised; dedication and commitment to serve the community; honesty, in order to inspire public confidence and trust in government; innovation; and teamwork.
