From Queen's Park by Sylvia Jones MPP — Three ongoing police investigations that Conservatives are watching

Official Sylvia Jones MPP Portrait - Spring 2013All elected officials are entrusted by the people to look out for and promote the interests of all Ontarians, and respect the law.
Unfortunately, the people's trust has been tested too many times and for too long by this Liberal government. Scandal after scandal, and police investigation after police investigation, we continue to see this government put their political interests ahead of the interests of the people of Ontario. There are currently an unprecedented three police investigations for three different crimes, but all have one thing in common — a complete disregard of the people of Ontario.
In early 2012, the OPP began, and today continue to investigate Ornge Air Ambulance Service in regards to questions about Ornge's finances. As a result of former Ornge CEO Chris Mazza's record of mismanagement, Ornge has been a financial mess and lacked proper oversight, which has resulted in millions of taxpayer's dollars being wasted. This is all because of this government's total disregard in oversight. This government chose to ignore repeated warnings about the financial mess and other problems at Ornge for many years. Now the people of Ontario are paying for it, and the police are continuing their investigation.
Just days prior to the 2011 provincial election, this government decided to cancel the construction of two gas plants in Mississauga and Oakville. This was nothing more than a political decision to save Liberal seats in the 2011 provincial election. Liberal employees then tried to hide information by deleting emails pertaining to the cancellation of the two gas plants. As a result, the OPP has been called in to look into the matter to find the missing information that was deleted and destroyed. This is the perfect example of the government putting their political interests ahead of the interests of Ontarians, and the police are continuing their investigation.
Finally, in the lead up to the Sudbury by-election, the Liberal's have been accused of bribing a political candidate. Reports have surfaced that the Liberal's allegedly attempted to bribe former Liberal candidate Andrew Olivier, to not run as their candidate in the by-election. The OPP has opened an investigation into this matter, and they believe laws were broken. This government only cares about staying in power and clearly don't care if it comes at some cost.
Whether it is negligence, or destruction of evidence, or bribery, they all have one thing in common and that is they are allegations that laws have been broken. My Progressive Conservative colleagues and I will continue to raise these scandals because the people of Ontario deserve to know if laws were broken, and those responsible will be held accountable.
