Friends, food and fun activities will be at Belfountain’s Salamander FestivalThey're small, slimy and slithering, and they're coming to a town near you. Belfountain will hosts its 18th annual Salamander Festival Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This will be in partnership with Credit Valley Conservation (CVC), the Belfountain Community Organization and community partners. The Jefferson salamander is native to Ontario and found primarily in Belfountain. CVC is committed to educating local residents about their roles caring for environments that are home to endangered species. Each year, people come to visit unique vendors and learn about CVC's efforts protecting Belfountain's green spaces. “It's a great day for supporting local talents, crafts and exploring this beautiful community,” CVC's Chief Administrative Officer Deborah Martin-Downs observed. “Each year, we come out to Belfountain to celebrate salamanders as a symbol of a healthy environment and local commitments to helping CVC conserve green spaces.” Activities will take place in the hamlet and Belfountain Conservation Area. Visitors of all ages will discover exciting activities, including an artisans' and farmers' market; a silent auction and live entertainment featuring the Rod Salisbury Band and Melyssa Kerr; a new Local Food Court, featuring sweet and savory foods; real salamanders; fly tying with the Izaak Walton Fly Fishing Club; a Kids Eco Zone Activity Centre; and real river critters and live animals with Sciensational Sssnakes. Admission to the festival is free. For more information, visit www.belfountain.ca or CVC's website www.creditvalleyca.ca/salamanderfestival |
