Find history and culture at PAMA throughout this month

The Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) offers something for everyone this month.
Whether one is a history buff looking for a lesson in Peel's past, an arts enthusiast ready to take up a new hobby, or a parent looking for a new adventure for their children, PAMA is the history and culture destination.
New and Continuing Exhibitions
Step Back — Look Forward will run from July 13 to Aug. 24, with an opening reception July 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. This will offer a glimpse into the history of Visual Arts Mississauga's contribution to making art in the region for the past 35 years, from grassroots art to being a catalyst to inspire and enrich the community.
Legacy: David Somers and PAMA's Works on Paper Collection is running until Aug. 31. This exhibition highlights the diversity of PAMA's Works on Paper Collection as it pays tribute to David Somers, curator and manager at PAMA from 1989 to 2009. From tranquil landscapes to exploding paper cuts, the visitor will be introduced to the work of 33 historical and contemporary artists, including Harold Klunder, Lizz Aston, Andy Warhol, Annie Pootoogook and Eric Glavin.
Spirit Seeds: A Celebration of First Nations Beadwork is on until Oct. 13. “Little Spirits,” as they're known in some First Nation languages, are beautiful objects decorated with tiny glass beads. The tradition of beadwork began when Europeans brought enchanting glass beads as an item of trade, and continues today as an important part of Native life and artistic expression. This legacy is celebrated by sharing historical and contemporary objects and the stories they tell of the artisans who created them.
Touching Lives for 40 Years is on until December. Peel Region is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and PAMA is highlighting its rich history and achievements over the past four decades through a special exhibit. See photos, videos and artifacts that tell a story of the evolution of the Region and community.
PAMA is a place to explore and learn about Peel's culture and heritage, as well as use conversation, questions and stories to help make new and fascinating connections to the surrounding community. Throughout the year, PAMA offers a variety of workshops and programs for all ages, families and adults.
Operated by the Region, PAMA is at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton. Visit pama.peelregion.ca to learn more.
