Film scene shot in Caledon East

By Bill Rea
David is a good man, but he doesn't know he's spent seven years raising a child of God.
Once he learns what has been going on, he tries to get the child back.
That's the premise behind the film David's Child. Director Nick Marciano, formerly of Bolton, is bringing his own book to the screen, and the plan is to have it out by the end of the year.
Marciano, who now lives in Hockley Valley, said the film is about David (played by David J. Parisian), an author who was looking forward to becoming a father when his eight-and-a-half months pregnant wife was tragically killed, but he's told the unborn baby survived. In reality the baby died.
“God replaces the dead child with one of his angels,” Marciano said.
David spends the next seven years raising the child as his own, but then submits to temptation.
“God takes the child back from him,” Marciano said. “It's about his struggles to get God to give the child back to him.”
David eventually encounters Mr. Wright (Peter Frangella), who deals with people who have had spiritual experiences.
They encounter each other in a café, and the scene was filmed Saturday night at Gabe's Country Bake Shoppe in Caledon East.
Proprietor Gabe Giraldi said Marciano is a regular customer who approached him a couple of months ago about shooting a café-setting scene in his establishment.
Marciano also said subsequent scenes will be shot at a church and general store in Hockley.
This is Marciano's third feature film. The first was shot in Bolton about 20 years ago, entitled Shepherd Boys. The other was called Lee's Offering, and was filmed in 2006.
He said it's sometimes hard to raise money for movies without the backing of some kind of government group. The book David's Child was published in a Bible Belt area of Kansas.
He added someone read the book and put up money because of its spiritual content.
