Family fun at Belfountain Salamander Festival

Belfountain will be hosting its annual Salamander Festival this Saturday (Sept. 26).
It will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in partnership with Credit Valley Conservation (CVC), the Belfountain Community Organization and community partners. This year's festival will feature an artisans market, live music, yoga sessions and live animals with Creature Quest.
The festival takes its name from the Jefferson salamander, a native amphibian in Ontario and found primarily in the Niagara Escarpment, which runs through Belfountain. Each year, people come to visit unique vendors and learn about CVC's efforts to protect green space and native species.
“This festival is important because it supports the community, engages local talent, and encourages nature appreciation,” commented CVC's Conservation Areas Superintendent for the south zone David Orr. “Each year, we come out to Belfountain to celebrate salamanders as a symbol of a healthy environment and local commitments to helping CVC protect our natural gems.”
Activities take place in the hamlet and Belfountain Conservation Area. Visitors of all ages will discover exciting activities, including the artisans' market; a silent auction; live entertainment, featuring Jerry Staples with Kewl Fusion and Melyssa Kerr; a pie-eating contest; a local food court, featuring sweet and savory foods; real salamanders; fly-tying with Izaak Walton Fly Fishing Club; a Kids Eco Zone Activity Centre; free yoga sessions; and live animals with Creature Quest.
Admission to the festival is free. For more information, visit www.belfountain.ca or CVC's website at www.creditvalleyca.ca/salamanderfestival
