The 164th annual Schomberg Agricultural Spring Fair kicks off today (Thursday) and runs through Sunday at the Schomberg Fairgrounds. Visitors can enjoy free admission to the midway starting at 5 p.m. tonight. Gates open at 4 p.m. Friday with the midway in full swing. There will be entertainment on the main stage throughout the evening. The highlight is the popular Demolition Derby, which attracts visitors and competitors from far and wide. It starts at 7:30 p.m. The action is in full swing Saturday when the gates open at 9 a.m. A draught horse show is on tap at 10 and the midway opens at 10:30 and the arena opens at 11. There's a host of main stage entertainment and the opening ceremonies with local dignitaries takes plat at 12:15. This will include the introduction of the ambassador. The Wilmas entertain at 1 p.m. Other events include a children's pedal, Creature Quest, horse pull, karate school demo, and ambassador competition from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. New this year is the Much Music Dance Party, which takes place at the main tent on the grounds at 7 p.m. It features live music and is geared for 11 to 14-year-olds. Tickets are only $2 with fairgrounds admission. Saturday also features a $28 unlimited ride wristband for the midway. Sunday kicks off bright and early with the Lions' pancake breakfast at the Community Hall on Main Street at 8 a.m. Back on the fairgrounds, the rabbit and cavy show starts at 10 and Front Porch Harmony provides the music on the main stage. There are dairy, cattle and mutt shows throughout the morning. At noon, drop by the horseshoe pitch and get involved in the baby show. The King City Secondary School jazz bands play on the stage starting at 1 p.m. Don't forget to check out the displays in the arena. The homecraft awards cap off the fair at 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission to the fair is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for children under 10 Friday. Saturday and Sunday, adult admission is $8; $7 for seniors and $3 for children.
