Title: Editorial — Some common ground?

Perhaps it was the weather, but more likely it was apathy found among most Canadians on the subject of abortion.
Whatever the case, the recent annual Choose Life rally against abortion in Orangeville attracted only about half the turnout achieved last year — about 40 instead of 80 pro-lifers and community sympathizers.
As most Canadians know, the country currently has no law against something that once was universally regarded as a criminal activity punishable by long jail terms.
And while many agree with columnist Claire Hoy that we need a law restricting access to abortion, there's little doubt that a majority support a woman's right to choose whether to carry a fetus to full term.
But there's no doubt as to the fatal consequences of a decision to abort. Nor is there much that many women who opt to have an abortion come to regret it in later life.
As we see it, what's needed is for all women to become fully knowledgeable as to both the risks involved in abortion and alternatives such as adoption.
