Ed Taccone named Caledon’s 2025 Senior of the Year

By Brock Weir

Long-time volunteer Ed Taccone has been recognized by Council as Caledon's 2025 Senior of the Year.

The presentation of the award, which is bestowed by the Town in partnership with the Government of Ontario, took place at Town Hall on Tuesday night.

The honour is presented each year to a local senior aged 65+ who “continues to enrich the social, cultural, or civic fabric of their community” – and Taccone, who was hailed as a community-builder, certainly fits the bill.

“Congratulations to Mr. Taccone on this well-deserved recognition,” said Mayor Annette Groves in a statement. “Ed's commitment to community-building is unmatched, and Caledon is stronger because of his leadership and dedication.”

Added Judith D'Souza Soares, Commissioner of Community Services: “Mr. Taccone exemplifies the passion, energy and generosity that our seniors bring to Caledon. His contributions remind us of the vital role older adults play in building connection, belonging and vibrancy across our Town.”

In his citation, Taccone was recognized as “the driving force behind some of Caledon's most cherished events and traditions.”

“As President of the Caledon Fair Board for 11 years, Ed provides steadfast leadership and is involved in every aspect of the fair – from maintaining the grounds to securing local business partnerships,” said the Town. “His volunteerism extends far beyond the fair: Ed plays a key role in organizing the annual Strawberry Festival and Caledon's Canada Day celebrations, ensuring residents of all ages can come together in celebration and community spirit.

“Ed's tireless contributions reflect the powerful role seniors play in shaping Caledon's vibrant and inclusive community.”
