Dunk Disposal gives new life to bikes through upcoming Donation Drive for HeartBeat Bikes![]() By Riley Murphy Local Journalism Initiative Reporter For the sixth year in a row, Dunk Disposal will drive through town picking up old bikes to repurpose and give them a new life through HeartBeat Bikes. HeartBeat Bikes is a community, not-for-profit bike shop that takes in used or broken bikes/bike parts, which are then reassembled and repurposed. HeartBeat Bikes is a “transition-focused employment program” that helps youth working with them overcome “employment barriers through intentional life skills development, on-the-job training, and paid employment at the bike shop.” They aim to “help youth find a permanent, meaningful job at wages that not only allow them to sustain themselves but also give them a chance to advance in their new career path once they leave us.” For free, Dunk Disposal will come by and pick up your used or unwanted bikes, as well as any helmets, bike parts or related items. They will also service surrounding towns, including Caledon, Orangeville, Shelburne, Erin, Brampton, Bolton, and Tottenham. The only heavy lifting you need to do is letting Dunk Disposal know where they can find your old bike. Cameron Dunkerley with Dunk Disposal says they picked up over 250 bikes at last year's donation drive. To get added to the route of pickups on the day, residents can call, text, email, or contact Dunk Disposal via social media, or 905 766 9008, contact@dunkdisposal.ca. |
