“Drowning in Love” Blissfully Baked x The Little Almond celebrates their second anniversaryBy Riley Murphy Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Blissfully Baked x The Little Almond is celebrating their second anniversary this weekend, and they're inviting the community to join them. Co-owners Taylor Arrowsmith and Shaina Lindeyer specialize in wedding, birthday, and celebration cakes, as well as treats such as macarons, cookies, and bars. Arrowsmith and Lindeyer first met in 2015 as lab partners in the Baking and Pastry Arts Management program at Humber College. It wasn't until Arrowsmith began selling her Little Almond products at Lindeyer's later workplace that they started working together again, and it took off from there. The two worked to both elevate their personal family recipes and create their own, and once they mastered this, they added baking classes, birthday parties, and tea parties to their business. Their second birthday officially marks the move to their current Downtown Bolton location, which was rebranded last October. Arrowsmith shared they're happy not only to be the place where people can “come in to make their day better with just a cookie and a coffee,” but also to be the place that can make their birthday or even wedding cakes. The two shared that one of the best parts over the past two years has been watching their regulars grow and become a part of their lives. They shared that they've been able to watch their customers grow from coffee drinkers to asking them to make their engagement cakes or their babies' first-birthday cakes. They add not only that, but also feel they're becoming both the community's “quick stop” for lunch and the space where they can sit and do work. Arrowsmith says they understand how important community is, and having locals choose them over large chains is “amazing.” They say the community's love and support over the years have been both overwhelming and emotional. “We're drowning in love, and it feels so good to feel a part of a community,” says Arrowsmith. To mark their anniversary with the community was a no-brainer to these two, and they invite everyone in the community to join in their celebration. This Saturday, November 1, from 1 pm to 3 pm, they will be giving out free coffee and slices of their beloved chocolate cake. “It's a recipe I've been using since I was a kid,” says Lindeyer. “People that don't like chocolate cake even still like it.” The community has been one of the best parts of the past two years for them. “Watching them grow with us, that's so exciting to me. We feel like they have welcomed us into their families in some way,” says Arrowsmith. “It's really thoughtful and nice that they want our desserts on their table.” “I really love that we've been able to grow into our space, make it our own, and make it into a comfy cozy place for the community,” says Lindeyer. Looking ahead, they share that they're looking forward to the exciting things to come. |
