Driver facing several chargesA car spotted in a field led to a number of charges being laid against a 27-year-old woman from Orangeville Sept. 14. Caledon OPP reports a citizen called in a report of a vehicle being driven in a field on the north side of the north side of East Garafraxa Town Line, shortly after 8 p.m. Police found a grey Mazda 3 in a ditch in the area of the Town Line and Winston Churchill Boulevard. The officers approached the female driver and immediately detected a strong odour of alcohol on her breath. As a result, the female was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and placed in the rear of the police cruiser for transport to the detachment. While en route to detachment, the woman freed herself from the handcuffs and when the officers attempted to re-handcuff her, she became combative and attempted to kick them. Officers further learned that the woman was bound by a recognizance order with a condition to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. As a result of the investigation, she was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in her system, failure to comply with recognizance and resisting arrest. Her licence was suspended on the spot, and the car was impounded for seven days. |
