DQ Athletes of the Week — Nov. 17, 2016
Mayfield Secondary School Jotam Chouhan This Grade 12 student is a point guard on the senior girls' basketball team, and they are looking ahead to the playoffs with a 6-2 record. She's looking forward to playing on the senior girls' volleyball team, probably as power, and soccer in the spring. Away from school, she plays rep soccer in the Aurora United organization. The 17-year-old lives in Caledon.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Gabrielle Benjamin This 15-year-old was point guard on the junior girls' basketball team. She said they got off to a bit of a rough start, but things got better as the season progressed. She's thinking of going out for the track and field team in the spring, possibly concentrating on the 400 metres. Away from school, she plays rep basketball in the Orangeville Hawks' organization. The Grade 10 student lives in Shelburne.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Makana Malinauskas-McLean This Grade11 student plays forward on the varsity basketball team, which got its season started with an impressive 8-0 record. She's planning to go out for the senior volleyball team, probably playing middle. In the community, she plays rep basketball in the Caledon Cougars' organization. The 15-year-old lives in Bolton.
Humberview Secondary School Daiki Shimbashi This 16-year-old is a Rotary exchange student hailing for Tokyo, Japan, and he contributed his skills as a kicker to the varsity football team. The team only managed two wins this season, but he notched points in all their outings. He's also planning to try out for soccer in the spring. The Grade 11 student is currently living in Bolton.
