DQ Athletes of the Week — June 2, 2016
Mayfield Secondary School Noah Chalifoux This Grade 11 student is a rower, specializing in single skulling, competing in two events last weekend. He's been rowing since Grade 9, but this is his first year in skulls. He was also active in nordic skiing in the winter, competing at OFSAA and was a cross-country runner in the fall. The 16-year-old lives in Brampton.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Anthony Plaja This 15-year-old plays left mid on the junior boys' soccer team. Away from school, he plays rep soccer for the Weston Wolves, that operate out of Brampton. He's been playing soccer since he was five. “It's the sport I love the most,” he said. The Grade 9 student lives in Orangeville.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Curtis Ruta This Grade 12 student played second base for the varsity baseball team, which compiled a 3-3 record in the first year playing in tier 1, just missing the playoffs. He played on the junior hockey team when he was in Grade 10, as well as playing intermural ultimate Frisbee in the winter. In the community, he plays rep baseball in the Bolton Braves organization, as well as rep hockey for the Caledon Hawks as a goalie. The 17-year-old lives in Bolton.
Humberview Secondary School Blake Patterson This 16-year-old plays scrum half on the school's junior boys' rugby team, which made it to the semifinals of ROPSSAA. In the community, he plays right wing for the midget selects in the Caledon Hawks organization. The Grade 10 student lives in the Palgrave area.
