DQ Athletes of the Week — February 19, 2015
Mayfield Secondary School Madalyn Newhouse The 16-year-old has been making her mark in nordic skiing. She was the top senior girl competitor from Mayfield at a meet last Thursday at Highlands Nordic. She was a cross-country runner in the fall and plans for go out for track in the spring, specializing in the 3,000 metres. Away from school, she active in horseback riding, showing on the Trillium circuit in hunters and is planning to soon try the A circuit. The Grade 11 student lives in the Belfountain area with her parents George and Cathy-Lou Newhouse.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Brittney Gout This Grade 10 student has been contributing her skills to the varsity girls hockey team, which won five of its first six games in the season. In the fall, she was quarterback on the school's flag football team, and she's hoping to play outdoor lacrosse in the spring. In the community, she plays AA midget hockey with Brampton Canadettes and midget B box lacrosse with the Guelph Regals. The 15-year-old lives in the Campbell's Cross area with her parents Tammy and Peter Gout.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Nicholas De Fazio This 16-year-old is a defenceman for the school's senior boys' hockey team. He's planning to play mid field in outdoor lacrosse in the spring. Away from school, he plays minor midget hockey in the Caledon Hawks organization, and is an Ontario Minor Hockey Association referee in Bolton and Caledon. The Grade 11 student lives in Bolton with his parents Alex and Loredana De Fazio.
Humberview Secondary School Dawson Hemphill This Grade 10 student has been enjoying some success in nordic skiing. He placed 15th out of 71 in a meet last Thursday at Highlands Nordic. He was also a power on the junior boys' volleyball team and is planning to play rugby in the spring. In the community, he plays centre on a select team in the North York Hockey League, and enjoys snowboarding. The 15-year-old lives in Bolton with his parents Greg and Debbie Hemphill.
