Dodgers back on right track in NDBL

By Jake Courtepatte
It's been a welcomed return to the win column for the men's AA Bolton Dodgers, who took three of their four games last week in the North Dufferin Baseball League.
Starting off the week on the right foot, the Dodgers entered the seventh inning in last Tuesday's contest with the Creemore Braves down 2-1. A number of errors on the Braves' part proved costly, allowing the Dodgers to plate three runs in the top of the final inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Meanwhile, Tysen Hansen was cruising all game, striking out one in the seventh to preserve the victory for the Dodgers. Hansen pitched a complete game with zero earned runs.
Hits came from the usual suspects of Jon Bloomfield and leading hitter Colin McKeen, while Luke Ratcliffe added a single and Sam Totty picked up his first double of the season.
Shawn English was back on the mound for Bolton last Wednesday, hosting the Ivy Leafs at North Hill Park. After a lacklustre start to the season, the 2014 NDBL champion Leafs entered the game without a loss yet this month.
English hurled his third strong outing in a row, limiting the Leafs at the plate in an eventual 7-1 victory. He moved to 2-1 on the year, the first multi-win pitcher so far on the Dodgers' lineup.
Sunday's road double-header with the Mansfield Cubs was crucial for both sides, as both teams are trying to crawl out of the middle of the pack around the crowded .500 level.
They split the games 1-1, ensuring that they continue to keep fighting.
It's a busy weekend ahead for the Dodgers, but they will surely have their chances in Nobleton against the Cornhuskers Saturday and in Angus versus the Black Sox Sunday. Both teams have combined for only three wins this season, and the Black Sox are yet to win in June.
