Title: DNA results in arrest

The use of DNA technology recently enabled Caledon OPP to lay a charge in break-in that took place almost 12 years ago.
Police report an Airport Road business was broken into Sept. 11, 2002. At the time, it was determined that the suspect(s) got on the property by cutting a section of the southwest fence. The suspect(s) left bolt cutters and a hacksaw at the scene. Identification officers noticed blood stains on the handle of the hacksaw.
The hacksaw was seized for DNA analysis, and the samples were forwarded to the Centre of Forensic Sciences.
A sample resulted in a positive match in the DNA Data Bank. Investigation revealed that the suspect in this break-in was residing in another province. In June, officers learned the suspect had moved back to Ontario and was in custody on other convictions.
The 32-year-old man, living at Maplehurst Correctional Facility was arrested and charged with break and enter over $5,000.
