Discover free Culture Days this weekend at PAMA


Celebrate culture with the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA).
PAMA will be offering free admission all this weekend (Sept. 27 and 28) for Culture Days, a cross-Canada movement to raise the awareness, accessibility and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural lives of their communities.
PAMA will provide a jam-packed schedule of interactive activities and workshops for all ages. Caribbean sounds, henna design and First Nations stories are just some of the exciting arts and culture activities to be enjoyed this weekend. Here's what's happening this weekend at PAMA:
Saturday
Drop-in Family Activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Exercise your creativity by making your own 3D paper sculpture and creating a mysterious cross-written letter based on archival images.
Community Art Piece from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contribute to a “community building” art piece by adding your self-portrait to the joint creation. Facilitated by artist Maura Coulter and FUSE.
Body Art Workshop from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Create your own body art using henna, a traditional herbal dye. Learn how henna is used in various cultures and leave with your own design. Facilitated by The Brampton Multicultural Youth Group.
Professional Henna Designs from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Receive a henna design on your hand by professional henna artist Sophia Mian of Simply Inspired Henna.
Behind-the-Scenes at the Art Gallery from 1 to 2 p.m. Meet PAMA's Art Gallery Acting Curator and enjoy a discussion and behind-the-scenes look at PAMA's collection of Inuit sculpture.
First Nations Beadwork Demonstration and Discussion from 2 to 5 p.m. Take in the beautiful First Nations beadwork of the Spirit Seeds exhibition, and meet three youth who tell contemporary stories using this traditional First Nations embellishment technique.
Sunday
Drop-in Family Activities from 1 to 4 p.m.
Community Art Piece from 1 to 5 p.m. Make your mark on the community “wall” at PAMA.
Spoken Word Performance from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Poet Alyestal Hamilton of FUSE gives a spoken word performance that shouldn't be missed.
Behind-the-Scenes at the Museum from 1 to 2 p.m. and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Meet PAMA's curatorial staff and learn about their favourite items from the museum's collection. Put on white gloves and use a magnifying glass to examine unique, interesting and one-of-a-kind pieces.
Caribbean Steel Drum Workshop from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Experience a musical performance with Caribbean steel drums, then take part in an interactive workshop using African drums to make your own sounds.
