Delve into world of fibres and fabrics this fall with PAMA

Toronto-based artist Lizz Aston's fibre-based exhibit, “Transform, Distort, Warp, Explode! A Survey of Work by Lizz Aston,” is on now at the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA).
Aston, who grew up in Peel, explores the crossroads between traditional craft, contemporary art and design in this exhibition. On now until Jan. 15, the exhibition examines Aston's experimental process as she transforms traditional materials through methods of abstraction, using digital technologies and manipulating pattern to create distorted and exploded views.
In keeping with the theme of textiles, artist Chamila Belleth will lead a two-day textile workshop Nov. 15 and 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Belleth will take participants through the process of exploring alternative methods of applying imagery and colour to cloth and paper with botanicals. Using ancient technique in contemporary ways, participants will design their own decorative silk scarves. Following the workshop, participants will receive a guided tour of two related PAMA exhibitions, Waist Management and Aston's “Transform, Distort, Warp, Explode!”
Get creative this fall and join Aston when she returns to PAMA Dec. 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a full-day polychromatic screen printing workshop. Participants 16 years of age and older are invited to take part in a workshop that will combine both silk-screening and painting techniques to produce watercolour-like images on paper and cloth using a one-step process.
Aston's largest art installation, Coalesce, was recently featured at Scotiabank Nuit Blanche in Toronto. Visit lizzaston.com to see a behind-the-scenes video on the making of this installation.

With a focus on the First World War, learn about the residents of Peel who served on the battlefront, behind the lines and in important activities at home. PAMA staff will provide a guided tour of the We Remember: Stories of Service and Sacrifice gallery this Sunday (Nov. 9) from 2 to 3 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. to explore the documents, objects and stories that remind of the sacrifices made by many Peel residents who served their country.
Join acting curator Gerrie Loveys on Nov. 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. as she leads through the PAMA Art Gallery's permanent collection for a lively discussion and tour of Pulling the Thread. She will link guest artist Aston's exhibition to pieces of art inspired by domestic textiles such as quilts, embroidery, rug hooking, knitting and more.
PAMA is a place to explore and learn about Peel Region's culture and heritage, as well as use conversation, questions and stories to help make new and fascinating connections to the surrounding community.
Operated by Peel Region, PAMA is at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton. Visit pama.peelregion.ca to learn more.
