CVC hosting summer twilight toursCredit Valley Conservation (CVC) is hosting evening tours of local stewardship projects. The tours will be guided by CVC specialists. Discover the benefits to land, air and water from exciting initiatives built by rural landowners in the community. Each session runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Pre-registration is required to participate in the tours. The first will be this coming Wednesday (July 8). The theme will be Create Your Garden Oasis — Touring Fusion Landscapes in the Village of Alton. It will be at Alton Park, 35 Station St. in Alton. This tour will demonstrate landscaping techniques that focus on capturing and reusing rainwater, including rain gardens, downspout disconnection and soak away pits. The July 14 session will be entitled Meadow Makeover — Weeds Are Out, Wildflowers Are In. It will be at 15409 Clayhill Rd. in Halton Hills. Tour meadow habitat being restored and learn how it will benefit grassland birds The tour planned for July 23 will be called Stream-Side Planting, Livestock Fencing and Harnessing the Power of the Sun. it will take place at 793159 Third Line East, Mono. People will be able to see how this landowner, in partnership with the Mono Headwaters Stream Committee and CVC, has restored a beautiful clear stream and protected water quality in the Credit River watershed. The topic of the July 29 event will be Go With The Flow — Restoring Stream Habitat for Fish. It will be at 12604 Sixth Line of Halton Hills. Tour a stream restoration project that involved removing a small dam and an artificial pond. The result was a cooler, healthier stream habitat for fish. “The tours are a great way for landowners to learn about rural property management,” said Mike Puddister, deputy CAO and director of watershed transformation at CVC. “We partner with landowners and assist with tools and resources to enhance natural features on their properties.” Programs, workshops and events are free, thanks to funding from CVC's regional and municipal partners.
