Curbside collection of large appliances ends in PeelResidents in the Town of Caledon are advised that as of June 30 the Region of Peel will no longer collect large appliances from the curb. “Our goal is to meet residents' needs while delivering cost-effective services,” Director of Waste Management Norm Lee announced. “Due to low uptake of the service, coupled with the fact that there are charitable and private organizations picking up appliances, and an ongoing challenge to complete the pick up before scrap metal collectors, it became apparent that it was no longer necessary for the Region to continue delivering this curbside service.” Appliances that will no longer be accepted at the curb for pick up include refrigerators, stoves, iceboxes, freezers, washing machines, dryers, furnaces, dehumidifiers, hot water tanks and metal bath tubs. For a full list, visit peelregion.ca/waste Residents have the following options to dispose of large metal appliances: • bring the item(s) or other metal fixtures to any of the Region's six Community Recycling Centres free of charge, • book a collection appointment with other local charitable organizations that offer the service (e.g. Habitat for Humanity), • plan to have old appliances removed by retailers when new models are purchased. |
