Councillors are our employeesIt is with great interest that I read your editorial, concerning the outcome of the Provincial election, and linking it with the Canadian Tire issue in Bolton. We know that the particular area is destined to be industrial land, but for your information there are dozens of non-polluting industries and industries that will provide good jobs with excellent pay. I presume that whoever wrote the article is a knowledgeable investigative reporter, or, is he/she a biased (in favor of Caledon council) reporter? I don't know if the writer in question knows that the Bolton councillors, Rob Mezzapelli and Patti Foley, and the rest of the councillors and Mayor are elected by the residents, and I don't care if the residents are for or against the Canadian Tire warehouse facility. One thing I and all residents expect is that this huge Canadian Tire issue should have input from the residents before even talking to Canadian Tire. As the Caledon Citizen reporter knows from the sneaky revelations, that Caledon council knew and approved two years before the Canadian Tire issue was presented to the Bolton residents, that such handling without the residents involvement is absolutely absurd. Why are the councillors elected by the residents? They are elected to inform and discuss any big issue with the residents. Just remember we the residents of Caledon and Bolton are their employers. We are the tax payers, and we are the ones that pay their outrageous salaries. This issue is not like re-paving a road, or putting a stop sign at the end of a road. This issue involved an area of almost a quarter the size of the town of Bolton and will affect thousands of residents, children and older people. In my opinion we the residents of Caledon and Bolton should be able to turn the table around and be able to unilaterally give the booth to the entire current Caledon council. John Van Eeden, Bolton |
