COMMERCIAL VEHICLE BLITZ

Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Caledon Detachment joined with road safety partners from the Ministry of Transportation and OPP Provincial Traffic Operations to conduct a Commercial Motor Vehicle enforcement initiative in the Town of Caledon.

25 MTO and 12 OPP members participated in the initiative that focused on CMVs in the Bolton area.

78 vehicles were inspected, resulting in 18 vehicles being taken out of service. A total of 52 charges were laid to drivers and companies.

Charges ranged from document infractions to major mechanical defects. One vehicle was found to have open alcohol inside. Mandatory Alcohol Screening tests were conducted and all drivers tested passed.

“Commercial vehicle inspections play a vital role in keeping Ontario's highways safe,” say Police. “Defective equipment, poor maintenance, and regulatory non-compliance can increase the risk of serious collisions. Enforcement initiatives like this one help identify safety concerns before they lead to incidents on our roadways.

“The violations identified during the initiative highlight the importance of ongoing commercial vehicle enforcement and the shared responsibility of drivers and carriers to ensure vehicles are safe and compliant before operating on public roads.

“The Caledon OPP remains committed to the safety of Caledon's roads and conducts CMV enforcement everyday having two dedicated members of the Detachment's Community Mobilization Unit trained as CMV inspectors.

“We appreciate the support shown from members of the community and Town Councillors who attended the initiative inspection site to speak with the involved officers.”
