Close scores to begin 2018 in the Sunday night hockeyThe Ken's Lawnmower Repair Blades are maintaining their lead in the Sunday Night Hockey League standings after the first two nights of action in 2018. Things did slip a bit as they were held to a tie Jan. 7 by the last-place Glen Eagle Golf Club Griffins, who have started the new year in pretty good form. The Inside Out Family Chiropractic Predators have a pretty good grip on second place, just two points off the pace, followed by the Ainsley Fire Protection Fire and Mr. Handyman Ice Hogs, who share third. The Pommies Cider Co. Wild hold fifth, followed by the Caledon Hills Brewing Co. Brewers, St. Louis Bar and Grill Wings and the Griffins. Jan. 14 Griffins 4, Brewers 3 The Griffins were able to skate to the win over the Brewers. Griffin goal getters were Ron Toffan from Matt Dowdle and Cory Schittenhelm, Brendan Pace from Richard Archer and Toffan, Lee Maunu from Dowdle and Toffan, and Kevin Norris from Alex Schittenhelm and Ryan Wood. Brewers' lamp lighters were Jay Beech from Kevin Bowen and Brent Spagnol, Bob McHardy from Beech and Steve Nicoloff, and Beech (unassisted). Ice Hogs 3, Wild 1 The second game of the evening saw the Wild fall short of the mark to the Ice Hogs. Handyman headliners were Adam Minatel from Brandon Jones and Matt Moss, Graham Bryson from Justin de Abaitua and Jon Hoy, and Bryson from Hoy and de Abaitua. Wild's lone marksman was Craig Shaw from Jason Clark and Shaun Heron. Blades 5, Fire 3 The third game of the night had the Blades take advantage of the short-benched Fire. Blade net nabbers were Darren Levy from Daryll Simpson, Daryll Simpson from Shawn Simpson and Dan Maggio, Levy from Brett Appio and Mark Bauldry, Shawn Simpson from Scott Drouillard, and Greg Fuller from Appio and Maggio. Fire firers were Brett Reed from Shane Ainsley and James Kennedy, Kennedy from Jeff Grimshaw and Ainsley, and Mike Andreoli from Mark Andreoli and Jon Gingerich. Predators 5, Wings 1 The last match saw the Wings fall prey to the Predators. Predator punishers were Mike O'Brien from Howard Cantelon, Scott Cantelon from John Hutchinson and Darren Jones, Colin Fyffe from Fab Iafano and Kyle Bagg, Fyffe from Kevin Christie and Bagg, and Christie from Bagg and Fyffe. Wings lamp lighter was Daniel Hamlett from Eric Webster and Derek Cleary. Jan. 7 There was no change in the standings at the end of the first night of action in 2018. Ice Hogs 3, Fire 1 The first game of the new year had the Ice Hogs get a narrow victory over the Fire. Handyman hammers were dropped by Brad Sztorc from Marc de Abaitua and Greg Keenan, Marc de Abaitua from Justin de Abaitua and Eric Cirone, and Marc de Abaitua from Justin de Abaitua. Fire's lone flame was David DiMeo from Brad Wigner. Predators 3, Brewers 2 In another close one, the Brewers fell just short of the Predators and took the loss. Predator prowlers were Iafano from Bagg and Scott Cantelon, Darren Jones from Cam Coulter, and Fyffe from Howard Cantelon and O'Brien. Brewer bashers were McHardy from Beech, and Brandon Scott from Brent Spagnol. Wild 4, Wings 3 In a tight battle, the Wild were able to squeak out a victory over the Wings. Net nabbing for the Wild were Craig Shaw from Steve Whitten, Mitch Merante from Shaw and Randy Isenberg, Steve Brown (unassisted), and Whitten (unassisted). Wing warriors were Cleary from Mike Weeda, Cleary from Rob Thibeault, and Webster from Cleary. Griffins 2, Blades 2 The final game of the night saw neither team able to best the other, as the Blades and Griffins skated to a draw. Griffin go-to guys were Toffan from Wood, and Ed Lewis from Dowdle. Blade bin bulgers were Daryll Simpson (unassisted) and Kevin Wigner from Simpson. |
