Christina Early officially launches Mayoral campaign![]() By KATHRYN FRASER Local Journalism Initiative Reporter On August 13, mayoral candidate Christina Early officially launched her campaign for Caledon's top job. Early took the time to speak to members of the Caledon community and spread her campaign message that focuses on presence, accessibility and supporting and protecting the Caledon Community. Officially the first candidate to throw her hat in the ring for in the Mayoral race, Early was excited to get the opportunity to share her story with the community. After serving the Town of Caledon for the last eight years as Councillor, Early decided that it was time for her to take the next step and run for mayor. Many members of the Caledon community gathered at the launch to not only get the chance to speak with Early but to show their support. During her speech Early highlighted the importance of responsible growth while also protecting Caledon's heritage and history “Caledon is a community of communities, and they are all unique and have their own priorities,” says Early “When I think about Caledon, I understand the heritage, I understand the history, and I really, really understand the culture, because the culture can't go away. The culture has to stay intact as we start building and developing this community.” Living in the community and raising a family in Caledon for the last 30 years, Early says she understands the changes and challenges facing Caledon and is committed to serving the community through transparent processes and decision-making. She highlighted that growth isn't simply about building new things, but that the community is part of the growth. “We know we've got to take growth, but we're going to take a pause and we're going to do it right. Growth has to be more than building homes, it has to be about the infrastructure. It has to be about businesses and jobs and parks and rec centers,” says Early. “So, there's room, in [my] opinion, for both history and the future.” Looking to the future, Early is hoping to be able to work together with the Caledon community, focusing on not only the present Caledon but the kind of Caledon that is going to be for those yet to come. “This election is about direction, and ultimately, it's about what kind of Caledon we leave to the next generation,” says Early. “That's why I'm running for mayor, to protect what we have and build what we need”. Early says she is grateful for all that have supported her on this journey, especially her family members and Harry and Judy Brander who hosted Early's campaign launch event. |
