This page was exported from Caledon Citizen [ https://caledoncitizen.com ] Export date:Sat Aug 8 20:06:57 2026 / +0000 GMT ___________________________________________________ Title: CHARGES FOLLOWING COLLISION INVESTIGATION --------------------------------------------------- Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual following a fail to remain collision investigation. “On July 26, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a single vehicle collision on the northbound Highway 410 off-ramp at Hurontario Street, in the Town of Caledon,” say Police. “The involved vehicle, a black Tesla SUV, collided with a guardrail and entered a ditch, before the driver was observed fleeing the scene on foot toward Treeview Crescent. “Shortly after, officers arrived on scene, located the driver, and formed grounds that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.” Following the investigation, Bhupinder Gharial, 63, of Brampton was charged with: Fail to remain; Operation while impaired – alcohol; Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on September 3, 2026, to answer to their charges. The charges have not been proven. The involved vehicle was also impounded for a period of seven days, and their driver's licence was suspended for a period of 90-days Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Caledon OPP at 1-888-310-1122. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.” ENFORCEMENT FROM THE SKIES The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is committed to saving lives and preventing serious injuries on Ontario's highways. As part of that commitment, officers conducted targeted traffic enforcement throughout Central Region over the Civic Holiday long weekend. “The OPP has seen a steady increase in reports of dangerous and high-risk driving across the province over the past several years,” said Police prior to the weekend. “This year alone, 33 fatal collisions on Central Region OPP-patrolled highways have claimed 37 lives. Through targeted enforcement and education initiatives, the OPP continues to address the behaviours most often associated with fatal crashes: speeding, aggressive driving, seat belt non-compliance and impaired driving.” From July 30 to August 2, 2026, uniform officers, supported by the OPP Airplane Enforcement Program (AEP), monitored driver behaviour on roadways in Peterborough, City of Kawartha Lakes, Dufferin, Caledon, Orillia, and Northumberland County. During the enforcement initiative, a spotter in the aircraft observed driving behaviours and identified traffic violations from the air to officers on the ground.    “The OPP reminds all motorists that every decision made behind the wheel impacts the safety of everyone on our roads. Drivers are encouraged to obey speed limits, avoid aggressive driving behaviours, ensure all occupants are properly restrained, and never drive while impaired.” MONO COLLISION Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with Dufferin County EMS attended a serious three vehicle collision in the Town of Mono.  “On Friday, July 31, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers attended Highway 10 in Mono for the report of a collision involving a SUV (sport utility vehicle), sedan, and motorcycle,” say Police. “As a result of the collision, the lone motorcycle driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre where he remains in stable condition. An occupant in the SUV was transported to a local hospital and has since been released.” Highway 10 between Highway 89 and 20th Sideroad was closed for six hours while officers conducted their investigation.   The Traffic Collision Investigation (TCI) team of the OPP was brought in to investigate. The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Dufferin OPP 1-888-310-1122.
