Celebrate the start of summer, as well as Peel, in June at PAMA

Step into the summer this June at the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) with brand new exhibitions, programs, lectures and events.
Join PAMA to celebrate Peel Region's 40th anniversary with a free day June 7, then exercise creativity with a variety of registered programs for all interests.
The Region's 40th anniversary Levee will start at 2 p.m. Join Chair Emil Kolb and members of Regional council to celebrate the occasion and the opening of the new exhibition Touching Lives for 40 Years.
Connections: Art and Book Club will be a free program taking place June 12 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PAMA and the Brampton Library are teaming up again for this. Join a librarian to discuss this season's selection: Eight Girls Taking Pictures by Whitney Otto. Following the discussion, one of the PAMA staff will take the group on a private tour through the photography exhibition, Photography in the Time of Digital Disenchantment. New and Continuing Exhibitions
Spirit Seeds: A Celebration
of First Nations Beadwork
This exhibit will run from June 14 to September, with an opening reception June 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. with a guest curator talk from Naomi Smith.
This exhibition features beautiful objects decorated with tiny glass beads, called “spirit seeds” in some First Nation languages. This legacy is being celebrated by sharing historical and contemporary objects and the stories they tell of the artisans who created them.
Legacy: David Somers and PAMA's Works
on Paper Collection
This show runs until Aug. 31. David Somers, former curator and manager of the Peel Heritage Complex (now PAMA), was instrumental in shaping the organization's outstanding collection of art and developed a Works on Paper Endowment Fund before his death. This exhibition highlights the diversity of PAMA's Works on Paper Collection and pays tribute to the late David Somers.
Photography in the Time
of Digital Disenchantment
This exhibit is on until July 6. The introduction of digital photography in the 1980s created a distance from the historical tradition of the photograph as a physical object. The artists in this exhibition try to re-establish this link with an awareness of how photography has changed. Artists include Dianne Bos, Virginia Mak, Zach Nadar, Rob Canali, Elizabeth Siegfried, Brea Souders, Osheen Harruthoonyan and Sarah Anne Johnson.
