Celebrate Culture days weekend at PAMAThe Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) kicks off fall with a great line-up of contemporary art, family activities and unique events, including the free action-packed Culture Days the weekend Sept. 26 and 27. This week (Sept. 1 to 6) is the last week for free admission and to share priorities for the future of the communities at the interactive Can you Imagine? exhibit. From Sept. 4 to Nov. 27, there will be Mapping Peel: An Exploration of Maps from the Peel Archives. Free with admission, this exhibit is in recognition of International Map Year (IMY), a worldwide celebration of maps. The Archives will display a variety of historic maps and plans from the collection. Sept. 16, there will be a #AskaCurator Twitter Event. PAMA is a proud participant in the Ask a Curator Day social media trend. This online event is the chance to ask the knowledgeable curators anything you've ever wanted to know about the PAMA collections and the world of arts and culture. The curators will be online all day long to take questions. Send a tweet to @visitpama using #AskaCurator to join in. Sept. 18 will be PAMA Kids (PA Days). Free with admission, dive into the world of printmaking with inspiration from the exhibition Timeless Creations: Prints by Stanley Lewis. Sept. 19 will be Family Art plus Yoga. Free with admission and running from 2 to 3:30 p.m., learn classic yoga movements and create a unique piece of art. All levels of yoga students are welcome. Sept. 26 will be Doors Open Brampton. PAMA is proud to join the international Doors Open tradition by offering free admission and special activities all day, including tours of the historic Court House; curators' talks at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.; and guess the mystery object in Manning Square. Sept. 26 and 27 will be Culture Days. This annual event provides the community with opportunities to participate in and appreciate art and culture. PAMA is a proud supporter of Culture Days 2015, offering free admission and special activities all weekend, including drop-in instructor-led activities in both the art gallery and museum; music workshops hosted by the Encore School of Music (Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.); Community Art Quilt Project, hosted by Progressive Art for Progressive Kids (Sunday only); and exploring body positivity with waist beads jewellery, hosted by Signature of a Mango by Lamoi (Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.) From Sept. 26 to Jan. 10, there will be Stephanie Rayner: Boat of Eternal Return, with a sneak preview during Culture Days. There will be an artist's talk Sept. 27 from 2 to 3 p.m., with an opening reception Oct. 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. This exhibition presents Rayner's innovative sculptural installation. Part boat, part musical instrument, this 30 foot sculpture mixes an array of unexpected materials, including moose ribs and DNA sequencing gels, to create a powerful metaphor for life, death and reincarnation. Sept. 29 will be PAMA Kids (P.A. Days). Free with admission, this will be a chance to celebrate the International Year of the Map by creating your own animated map and discovering PAMA's interactive map. PAMA is closed Labour Day. PAMA is a place to explore and learn about Peel Region's culture and heritage, as well as use conversation, questions and stories to help make new and fascinating connections to the surrounding community.
