Calls to adjust speeds around RF Hall School

By Bill Rea
Peel Region officials are going to be consulted to see if it's possible to reduce speed limits on a stretch of Old Church Road in Caledon East.
The suggestion came at last week's Town council meeting from planning consultant Paul King, representing Caledon Villas Corporation, which owns about 29 hectares surrounding Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School.
In a letter to the Town, King stated Caledon Villas has been seeking permission to carry out a residential development on the site. Part of this process has involved a speed limit review on Old Church Road. The stretch from Innis Lake Road to a point about 515 metres to the east currently has a posted speed limit of 50 km-h, but King stated there are suggestions to extend it another 200 metres.
He stated it should represent a minor change, but would improve student safety.
King also told councillors they did noise studies and determined there's a difference when speeds are reduced.
Mayor Marolyn Morrison said the issue should be referred to public works staff, and they could check with the Region to see if the speed reduction is appropriate.
