Caledon’s Raddysh leads OHL’s Greyhounds to semifinal seriesWritten By JAKE COURTEPATTE There's an old saying, that there's no moment more exciting in sports than a game seven. Caledon's Taylor Raddysh, at just twenty years of age, has had his fair share in leading his minor Toronto Marlboros and previous OHL team the Erie Otters in the postseason. A crucial second round series with the London Knights came down to the wire in the 2016-17 season, Raddysh's NHL draft year, where he helped the Knights to an eventual OHL championship. Yet Monday's game seven against the Owen Sound Attack, with his current team the Soo Greyhounds in the third round of the OHL playoffs, was the latest in the season of his career. A barnburner in their home rink of Essar Centre saw Raddysh post four points, a goal and three assists, in the Soo's 9 – 7 win to reach the final four. The win came just one day after the Attack kept themselves alive with a 7 – 1 thumping of the Greyhounds in game six, successful in keeping both Raddysh and fellow sniper Boris Katchouk off the board. “It was kind of embarrassing, but we're good enough to rebound from it,” said the Soo's Taylor Raddysh in a media scrum, speaking of the blowout loss. “Obviously we're confident. We've had success at home and we're excited going into the game.” Raddysh has been a key component of the Greyhounds' playoff run, posting seventeen points so far, after a 39-point performance in 28 games with the Greyhounds this season. He was traded to the Soo from the Otters for an incredible nine draft picks in early January as the Greyhounds readied themselves for a playoff run, a move that has paid off in droves for the rising star. Drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Raddysh is expected to join the team next season. In the meantime, he will be looking to capture his second OHL championship in three seasons, with the Soo taking on the Kitchener Rangers in game one of their semifinal matchup on Friday. |
