Caledon Public Library offering new way to pay your library book fines

Beginning on March 1, Caledon Public Library (CPL) is giving children from babies to age12 the opportunity to clear fines from the library card with more reading.

One dollar will be credited towards children's library cards fines from every 30 minutes of reading. Only fines on children's books can be ‘read away'. 

It doesn't just include books. Criteria towards reducing fines also includes comic books, magazines and newspaper, digital databases and articles, eBooks and even audiobooks. 

“Often fines create a deterrent, especially for children, from using the library”, said Laura Groe, Manager, Youth Services at Caledon Public Library. “CPL is committed to every child having a library card with access to books, music, and all the information and technology needed for discovery and learning.”

Time is track through an online program called READsquarded that can be downloaded through the Apple Store or Google play. 

Programs like these encourage children to indulge in reading to in a fun and easy way to reduce fines on their library card to clear any stress about fines. Reading may done at the library but also at home, school or where ever is most comfortable. 

Fines stack up when books aren't returned to the library on time. So clear up all your fines by reading them away!
